Kids say and Tintis (things I never thought I'd say)

Feb:
At church...*digging through my purse*
"Charlotte, what are you looking for?"
"Um... I don't know, but I need to keep looking to see if I can find it."

So jer threw up. I gave the girls washcloths to wipe down door handles, light switches and anything else daddy may have touched recently...I turn around to Sam wiping down the lamp shade on her tippy toes saying to herself, "he probably touched this..."😂😂

"mom! Guess what I can say now! hOSPital. Not hostipal." -charlotte
"Aw, I liked how you said it before."
"Well, I can say it right now. Sam learned it to me."😂😂

A picture is worth a thousand words!

Charlotte became very indignant when I offered this for a church dress. "I'm not wearing that! That's a peasant girl dress!!!"
😦

"so 6 equals 3, cause 3 goes with 6."
-Charlotte

April

Charlotte threw a fit at dinner because the gravy that she did NOT want wasn't covering all of her chicken.

2 days ago Charlotte wore her sandals for the first time this year.
She then peed her pants twice while playing as she waited too long. She now refuses to wear the sandals. she says they make her pee her pants.

Charlotte just informed me that she just met 2 humans outside. One girl kind and one boy kind.

May

Things I never thought I'd say as a mom, "you are NOT a mermaid. STOP trying to breathe under water!"
"Yes, Mommy..."

I cleaned out Charlotte's cubbie at dimensions and she was appalled that I suggested we throw away anything...

"BECAUSE YOU WASTED SO MUCH TIME BAWKING LIKE A CHICKEN!"
-something I may have said this morning

Me to the girls in the back seat as I'm driving, "I love you girls!"
Samantha immediately responds, "I love you too!"
Charlotte (grumpy from long day at school), "......I don't like you."

I walked into the bathroom and Sam says, "sorry...I farted... It kinda stinks."
"That's ok," I replied. "I'm used to stinky farts, remember?"
"Yeah. I'm guess I get that from you. You know, when I came out of your tummy and kids get stuff from their parents? That's ok. I forgive you."

Kids say

August:
After working the 9th grade retreat for two days Samantha kept asking if I was finished welcoming "those men". Took me several minutes for me to realize she was talking about the FRESHmen

"I think I have a disease."
"What do you mean? What kind of disease?"
"One that makes me leave stuff at people's houses. I do it ALL the time."
-samantha

"hello there sir...well, there's head lice in the family..." Samantha to the stranger using the dryers next to us at the laundromat...pretty sure I should have brought Charlotte instead..

"can I hold Genevieve?"
"Can I go play on the swing set?"
"Can I go down the BIG slide?"
"Can we go skating?"
NO! You have a broken arm!!!!! Why does she keep forgetting this?!
September:
Me to Jer about my day, "x happened and... it totally hit the fan."
Charlotte looking up at the ceiling, "What hit the fan, mommy?"

C, "mommy, my head itches.."
Heart skips a beat and I reply, "really? Do you think you have bugs again?"
"Yeah. Can you comb my hair?"
"You think I need to comb your hair again?"
"Yeah... And while you do it, can I watch a show on your phone?!"
I swear, they'll do anything to get a screen fix! Little junkies..

October:
"it just wasn't the same here, mom, without you and your harsh voice."
-samantha

"daddy, I miss the yelling. You don't yell. You just raise your voice."
-Samantha while I was away

Samantha got a set of books from a dear friend after she broke her arm. We asked her to write a thank you. This was her first draft. She insists that she likes them now, it was just her "being honest" as to her first reaction. She was commissioned to do a nicer one
x

Goodness this child. Yesterday, I gave Samantha a list of her options for the day (she was grounded). Today I found this lying around... She thought I wouldn't be able to read it because she wrote it with her left hand... Little does she know the high schoolers I teach.

These sentences brought to you by the 21st century!

"Sam, try this sweetened homemade whipped cream with fruit!"
"No thanks, it's not my thing. Can I just have an apple plain?"
"How about these crackers with cream cheese!"
"Um... OK..*eats 2 bites* I'm done with these, can I have the bag of carrots?"
The child we are trying to fatten up has the wrong taste buds!
-Signed, the salvating nursing mom who is trying to lose the baby weight

Samantha reads a lot of comic books, especially Baby Blues. Recently she's taken too SAYING things like, "sigh" and "groan" when she's upset or disappointed. The newest one has me in stitches. Jeremy has heard her SAY, "giggle giggle snort" when she's laughing
November:

It's OK to enjoy (just a little bit) Samantha's despair at not knowing who Jer and I each voted for, right?

Jeremy "woah. The Verizon black Friday deal has a Google Pixel for only $10 a month."
Me, "whats a Google Pixel? well, you just called and saved us 40 a month, so we could work that in if that's something you'd want."
*30 seconds later*
Jeremy, "OK, it's $** shipped, we have to pay taxes up front. Happy birthday and Christmas to me!"
Me, "😳 oh, so we're doing it then?"
Jer, "you said we had room in the budget! No way was I going to wait for you to change your mind!"

December:
"Mommy let's hold hands while we are going down the stairs so you don't get lost..."
-Charlotte

"Charlotte, go ahead and start eating!"
"But mommy, I didn't PRAY yet!"

I put another tradition into practice this year that I learned from the Foley's (and thought was so odd when I was young)- the girls got each other things in the house already. C helped "fix" a favorite toy of Sam's (put in new batteries), C and S dug through the baby toy bag and picked out toys for G that she's never seen before and Sam wrapped up dark chocolate for C. The girls are so excited!

Discovery of the day- Genevieve is terrified of car washes.
Someone wasn't taking Time-Out seriously

Feburary:
Twice now I've put both girls in time out and they could only get out when they gave each other permission to do so. Attitudes changed instantly. How can we apply this to politics and foreign policy???!!

Christmas gift

She opened her stocking and declared, "Mommy, I don't want to open my other presents, I just want to play with my monies."

She did eventually take a potty break.

Kids Say

                                                   Charlotte
"La- la-la-la- basana."

"Nilk" (for milk)

"Matalia" (for Natalia)

Walking up to Katie's house in her sandals this morning the grass was wet with dew,
C, "Oh no! the grass is wet and my feet are getting wet!"
Me, "Would you like me to carry you?"
C, "Yes! ...Oh, no. no. You have Genevieve in your tummy. I'll walk. That would not be appropriate.

Samantha
I told Samantha to go look at a picture from when she was little and notice what she was wearing.  Then I told her to come back and look at Genevieve.  She got all excited and squealed, "Oh my goodness!  We have TWO of that outfit?!"

I was telling Jeremy and Samantha the story of a boy at a b-day party who had had 8 pieces of cake and was going crazy.  He was desperate for more and found a plate with 4 pieces, shoved another piece of cake (frosting side first) into his mouth and then spit back out onto the plate what he couldn't fit into his mouth.  His mother was mortified and was disciplining him.  It was a good lesson on self-control and what sugar does to you.  Sam's response, "Oh. My. Goodness....what was his NAME?"

"Why does he feel nice?" "why would you ride a cowboy to save a horse?" "Why would you blind? (misheard-sweet Caroline)"
-Samantha shouting at a wedding...
"Stop asking questions and just DANCE!"
-my response

Samantha, "Charlotte! Stop it! You're hurting my shadow!"
Jeremy, "Samantha, she can't hurt your shadow."
Charlotte- with evil grin continues to stomp harder on Sam's shadow

"*Sigh* How many more weeks until we visit my Godparents?  My heart is twisted in pain I miss them so much!"

Me, "Anything else for the grocery list that you can think of?"
Jeremy, "Tequilla! Rum! Vodka!"
Sam, "What? Are you speaking Spanish?"

BOTH:
C "Why are they making coffee?"
S "Because it wakes them up and puts them in a better mood!"

Kids Say

A few that I don't want to forget...

Charlotte crawled into bed with me to cuddle for a few minutes and gasped, "Oh!  I felt Genevieve kick!"
I replied, "No, I think she's still sleeping, but she'll be awake here soon..."
And Charlotte chirped back, "Oh!...Will her light turn green?"

Today while making coffee,
C, "Why are they making coffee?"
S, "Because it wakes them up and puts them in a better mood!"

Charlotte every single time we get into the car, "MOMMY!  Do you want to play I Spy?!?!? Ok!  I'll go first...I spy something...green! The grass!  Ok your turn!"

"I fell at recess...and I screamed REALLY loud- but only once...and then cried and cried...but MOM I'm gonna have a really cool scab, won't I?!?!

5 am Wake-up Call

Oh, Day Light Savings Time, how I loathe you.  Poor Charlotte has suffered the most this time.  I'm having to wake her up and she's a zombie when I drop her off at the babysitter's.  She's our rock-star sleeper, but she woke up last night screaming about a pepper biting her toe.

Yep.  A pepper.  Not sure what type...didn't even know she knew what a pepper was.  In consoling her she kept telling herself, "It's ok, it was a dream...just like the butterflies aren't going to get me." (The last nightmare she had- a BIG butterfly flew into her her ear...Daddy saved her and she only wanted him when she woke up screaming).

It was the talk of the day and every time I'd ask her about it she'd get very serious and retell the whole thing, pointing to a very specific toe.  I still don't know which it was as I was usually turning my head hiding my laughs at this point in the story.

So, just to review...Charlotte's nightmares:

Also, today, Sam walked in the door, "*sniiiiiff" It smells like bacon! Daddy? Are you home?"

Broken Heart

*exasperated sigh* "Mommy, is there another baby in your tummy yet?"

Oh how that question yanked at my heart.

Fly on the Wall

August 2015

After 3 days of it, I think it's official now- Charlotte sleeps in a "big-girl" bed!

I told Sam to come help me empty the dishwasher. She literally fell to the floor, howling in pain that her legs huuuuuuuuuuuuurt. *eyeroll*

Charlotte's answer to everything in the affirmative is now, "Yes I do."
Do you want to get down? "Yes I do"
Did you get your book? "Yes I do"
Are you all done? "Yes I do"

July 2015

Sam wants the toothfairy to come again but doesn't want me to pull the (very loose) teeth she has...so she said, "Ok, mom, how about this- I've got a great idea- all we got to do is get some cardboard, cut it in the shape of a tooth, get a white crayon..."
Ok, seriously, how am I supposed to parent this child with a straight face?!?

"Mommy can you put my hair up?"
"Sure, go get a hair tie."
"Ok!" Gets down from the table, runs off, comes back and says, "I'm ready now!"
"Ok, where's the hair tie?"
"Oh, shoot, I forgot to grab one!"
-Most absent minded child EVER

"What should we have to drink?"
"Beer."
"What?"
"Beer."
"For the kids or the adults?"
"Both."
JackieNadean- WHAT is she doing with you guys after school?!?

April 2015

A rough morning this morning. Lots of tears all around. In the midst of it all I slapped down her pancake and said, "Here's your damn pancake." Which, of course, started tantrum #48 with a wail of "NOOOOOOO!!!! I don't want a DAMNED one!!!!!"

March 2015

"I gave up social media for Lent."
Teen at Godteens, "What does that mean for you people?"
"You people? What social media do us old people use?"
Teen, "Um...yeeeaaah...I mean, besides facebook."

Love the Beauty in Innocence: Lucy, "Addie and I almost said the "a" word twice at school today!". Me, "The "a" word...you mean, a-s-s?" Lucy, with an appalled look on her face, "NO! The "a" word that you're not supposed to say during lent!"

February 2015

Gabe has been with us this weekend. Boy, you want to annoy Jeremy and Samantha? Call Charlotte "he" and use all male pronouns. Good grief!
___________________________________________
In the very touching "thank you" letters from students they all described me as "nice" over and over. Jeremy's response was "Well, you are...in a french way."

"Dress like a teacher" day today. So far I've seen two who are me. The outfit? A maxi-skirt, tall boots and a grey scarf.

"You mean your principal?"

So...Sam passed out from seeing her blood today and will now have a splint on her finger to try and avoid stitches for a couple of weeks. She also (hopefully) learned NOT to touch broken class.

Baby Rose

On Monday I have a D&C scheduled to allow baby Rose to be buried.  She was really small, but oh so loved.  Samantha wanted to name her "Flower" but we didn't quite think that was appropriate, since we wouldn't name any children that made it to birth "Flower."

So we suggested "Rose" and it seemed right.

It's been a rough 2 weeks and a roller-coaster of emotions.  The biggest right now is financial.  It just never seems like we can get above treading water.  No matter how hard we try.  My birthday present was going to be paying off our smallest loan.  But now we'll be paying for surgery.  Every day I pray that our 13-year-old cars can hold it together for a few more years.  Even when we try and save up for a "new" used car, some stupid medical bill just throws us back thousands of dollars.  I know I should be grateful that we have private insurance.  And that we can pay our bills.  Eight years into a long list of very expensive medical problems and we've always been able to pay off everything with in a few months.  But it's those stupid student loans that keep us tied at the neck.  That keep forcing us both to work our tails off and make a "sick-day" so expensive and exhausting.  We're 2 weeks away from a much more affordable insurance and we'll be maxing out our deductible and co-insurance of the horribly expensive and high-deductible insurance this week.

We just. can't. win.

Anyway.

Now we have two babies in heaven and two on earth.  Eddy and Rose, you've got a lot of work to do while we wait to meet you!  Pray for us, babies, PRAY!

Fly on the Wall

December:

Charlotte tells herself "good girl" all the time now. Good self-esteem...CHECK._____________________________________________________________________________

First day of break:  Today I vacuumed, scrubbed the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen, did 4 loads of laundry, had a playdate with friends, showered AND shaved, made 18 cups of brown rice, 10 cups of black beans, colored with the girls, read books with the girls, helped Sam put decals of the Nativity up on the window and dropped off a Christmas gift. I think that's enough productivity for the rest of the year, no?
___________________________________________________________________________
I offered Charlotte some brown rice that I was eating and TWICE she refused with a resounding "NO!" and running off. I offered it to Sam and Charlotte came running and is now finishing off the bowl. HOW did I ever raise Samantha without a Samantha???
___________________________________________________________________________________

"Samantha, get up- out of bed."
Pause. "And...what happens if I don't?"
"Not an option, get out of bed!"
"But what happens if I don't?"

Lord Help Me

____________________________________________________________________________

I swear, if I hear the phrase, "So...I didn't read the instructions....how many points off is it if I didn't __________" one more time..

_____________________________________________________________________________

I came downstairs this morning and heard "CRINKLE CRINKLE CRINKLE". When I turned the corner I saw the last ditch effort from Sam to "shove" the box of cookies back onto the shelf. She spun around as quick as possible and tried to close her mouth over the stuffed-in cookie. I just looked at her and she looked at me. Slowly her eyes changed from surprise to guilt as she knew she'd been caught.

____________________________________________________________________________

Yesterday I was teaching “Cantar” and I sing, “LALALALALA!” into a  . After having them repeat it, one male student said, “NO! GUYS! That’s wrong! We’re boys! We say ”EL EL EL EL EL"

____________________________________________________________________________

Charlotte was put into time-out for the first time the other night. Of course, it wasn't a real time-out, just putting out of screeching range while we ate dinner. Samantha sat at the table while Charlotte was in "time-out" grinning from ear to ear, watching her sister intently. I laughed and she looked at me, eyes sparkling,

"You're glad it's her and not you, aren't you?"
giggling she replied, "YEP!"

____________________________________________________________________________

I teared up last night watching Samantha play WITH her baby sister and the nativity scene. Charlotte was all over the place, knocking down stuff and picking up random pieces and Sam didn't blink an eye and calmly traded pieces with her whenever she wanted what Charlotte had. She has come so far- from lining up her toys and forbidding anyone from touching them to graciously playing with a careless toddler. As Sam said the other night, "Before Charlotte I never had anyone to play with at home, but now I do! We need more babies, mom."
Siblings really are the best gift ever :

November

A tale of two tired sisters. One yells and complains, indicating that she's tired. We give her the binky, she cuddles like the sweetest cuddle-bug and we can lay her down AWAKE and she passes out, waking 2 hours later as happy as can be.

The other yells and complains and SPITS, indicating that she's tired. We give her her puppies and she SCREAMS and stomps and flings herself to the ground because, well, she's tired. Then she SCREAMS and demands to be cuddled. With a heavy sigh we have to decline, which, of course, just perpetuates the tantrum. After 10 more minutes of fake-crying she finally passes out, waking 2 ours later as grumpy as she was when she went to sleep.

I'd like to think the eldest is just going through a phase, but she's been doing that routine since she was born, so I'm pretty sure any future husband will need some major sleep-routine warning...

Question on a test, "¿De qué tienes miedo?"
Student answer, "Tengo miedo de Ood."
^^^New teacher's pet

_____________________________________________________________________________

"No! nonononoNO!"
-Charlotte as she does something she's not supposed to do

_____________________________________________________________________________

I was so relieved that my ears perked up to Sam and her "great idea" that she whispered aloud. I turned around to stop the toothpaste going on a q-tip just in the nick of time!

_____________________________________________________________________________

Charlotte was very intensely studying me and the signing books as we read them over and over and over. About the 5th time through she got "cat", "dog", "baby", "book" and "hat" down perfectly. The best part was showing Samantha and watching HER excitement and aw! Unfortunately taking out the camera shuts off the performance and turns on the screeching and pawning for the camera :(

_______________________________________________________________________________

I've got my students trained well. When someone says something like, "Los maestros son inteligente" the rest of the class helps them out by starting a chorus of "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS".

October

tricker-treater count- 1. Come on, kiddos, I've got TWO bags of candy to give away!

_______________________________________________________________________________

There are two very distinct kinds of exhausting. One is after working all day and coming home to do the night-time routine. The other is after taking care of (sick) kids all day. Every time I'm in the routine of one type and switch gears to the other I'm reminded of how equally exhausting the other routine is

______________________________________________________________________________

Staying home with a sick baby and an older sister who I THINK is playing hookie. She's quarantined to reading on the couch all day...we'll see how long it is before she's begging to go to school!

_______________________________________________________________________________

Me, "How many demerits do you have from me now?"
Student, "Three."
Me, "Well, it doesn't seem like the demerits are working for you, so next time this happens, I'll try talking to your coach."
Student, "NO! The demerits are working!!!!"

Ah, there you are, Leverage.

______________________________________________________________________________

Talking about our "date" this weekend to get Samantha her own bible, I told her there are some that are much prettier than mine, with gold and ribbons. Her eyes got real big and she asked, "Do you think they have a FROZEN bible?"

____________________________________________________________________________

Tess ate Charlotte's poop for lunch. Her food bowl was full. Just let that thought settle for a moment...

September

Sam bathes herself now. Jer and I have more down time and Sam struts around the house after getting herself ready, beaming with pride. WIN-WIN.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Me, "You look confused. Where did I lose you?"
Student, "You said mascotas. You didn't give us that one. I have no idea what is."
Me *pointing to the vocab sheet* "Did you get it down? Yep! Right here."
Student, "No, that says mascotA, not mascotAS ."

Right, then. Baby steps it is.

_________________________________________________________________________

Charlotte can say, "Sm-ah-ta" and "noooooooooooooo!"...I'm guessing her first sentence is not too far around the corner...

________________________________________________________________________

student waiting for me outside my room: "Maestra, is the homework due today?"

Me "What did the board say?"

"Friday"

"What day is it today?"

"Not Friday. Ok, thanks!"

August

after a rougher day than we've had in over a year, Sam confessed at 6pm that she'd gotten up in the middle of the night and hung out in the basement for a bit...how do I even-where is this coming from?? What is so wrong with SLEEP that both my husband and child fight it like it's kryptonite?

______________________________________________________________________

Apparently Sam's main topic of conversation after her first day of kindergarten was the "Man who walked me to my pick-up spot. He wore some SHARP pants. He was sooooooooooo handsome. Even more handsomer than my daddy." Mr. Medna better watch out, someone's got their eye on him! Hopefully the crush will calm down by the time she reaches 6th grade :)

July

Sam this morning, "*SIGH*...I miss Arkansawl."

_____________________________________________________________________________

Samantha today, "Does Emma live in a house made of wood?"
"No."
"Then why is it called Emma Woodhouse?"

________________________________________________________________________________

Sam just woke up very upset. After lots of mumbling I finally understood the sentence,
"I don't have a hog-suit!"
"It's ok, I'll get you one tomorrow."
"Ok."
and she went back to sleep.

___________________________________________________________________________________

I was making dinner and Samantha walked in:
"Is Daddy home?"
"No, he's still at work."
"Oh...YOU'RE making dinner?"
"Yep."
"Did daddy say that was ok?"

______________________________________________________________________________

Just taught Samantha how to read commas. She was reading, "Rabbit, Pooh and Piglet." I told her to take a breath between the first two words otherwise it sounded like something else. :)
